Your child’s dentist can check if you or your kids have crooked teeth. This means your jaw is too small for your tongue which is then more likely to go back and close the airway. As a result, this poses a risk to the way your child breathes and can induce sleep apnea. Ask your dentist to assess your kids for proper jaw development and how that can help with their breathing.
What can you do as a parent? You can look at your child and pay attention to how your child is breathing. Is your child snoring or experiencing restless sleep? Are they grinding their teeth at night? Do they have frequent ear infections or asthmatic? You can encourage your child to perform nasal breathing while your child is doing daily activities like their homework, watching TV, reading a book, or watching TV.
Nasal breathing can result in a higher IQ, less daydreaming, and can improve their performance at school as they are more attentive.
Book your appointment with Sanitas Dental and see how we can help you with your breathing and the benefits of nasal breathing.
